1. Linux and macOS

At launch

Linux and macOS builds will be linked here at launch. The install steps below stay the same.

Linux

AppImage

Ubuntu 24.04+ (glibc 2.39). Make it executable and run it. No separate IPFS or Ceramic install.

Torrentech.app

Universal (Apple Silicon and Intel). Unzip, drag into Applications. macOS 14+ recommended. First open is blocked until you click Open Anyway.

2. Install and run

  1. macOS — unzip Torrentech-macos.zip, drag Torrentech.app into /Applications, then open it. The first launch is blocked until you allow it — macOS first open.
  2. Linux — 
    chmod +x Torrentech-linux-x86_64.AppImage

  3. Quit from the tray menu so the bundled nodes stop cleanly.

3. macOS — allow the first open

The Mac build is not Apple-notarized. After a browser download, macOS Gatekeeper treats it as an unidentified developer. That is expected. The app still runs once you allow it.

First open

Double-click once so Settings shows the block. Then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Enter your password or use Touch ID, then confirm the second dialog.

  1. Open Torrentech.app. macOS will refuse and say the developer cannot be verified, or that Apple cannot check it for malicious software.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll to the message that Torrentech was blocked.
  4. Click Open Anyway. Authenticate, then confirm Open on the follow-up dialog.
  5. The app should launch. Later opens on this Mac do not need this again unless you download a new copy.

A managed or work Mac may hide Open Anyway. Right-click → Open is not enough on recent macOS.

4. First launch — in-app wallet

  1. Create a new wallet or import an existing one. The app runs on Arbitrum One (chain ID 42161).
  2. If you created the wallet in the app, back up the recovery phrase offline. If you imported one, keep using the backup you already have.
  3. You need a little ETH on Arbitrum One for gas, and TTT for paid downloads (default 2 TTT burned). Contract: 0x52Ca05fF11c9b5c3c27A232066604ecE048F8334 (Arbiscan).
  4. Free download unlocks one format per cooldown (default 7 days) without burning TTT — still needs gas. Web has no free download.

5. Browse, pay, pin

  1. Browse and search are always free.
  2. Open a release. Unlock a format with Pay TTT or Free download.
  3. Save with Download .tar / .zip, or Download and Pin to keep a durable copy on the bundled IPFS node. Album audio on the mesh is encrypted; the app decrypts it after unlock.

6. Ceramic and IPFS (bundled)

You do not install an Ethereum web wallet add-on, IPFS Desktop or Ceramic. The app starts a local Ceramic replica and a Kubo node, then joins the public IPFS mesh. Status lines in the UI show Ceramic and IPFS state.

Wait until the IPFS This machine cell shows a peer count before relying on local pins of gated releases. If local Ceramic and IPFS are down, gateway downloads still work; only pinning is skipped.

GUIBo (optional)

Want a separate Kubo window? GUIBo is a third-party Qt GUI. Not required — this app already bundles Kubo. Trial is limited; lifetime US $5 in USDT / USDC / DAI on Ethereum mainnet (not Arbitrum). Details: Pinner → GUIBo.
