That rumor is false. My boy asked Raja Ram at Underground Sound 4 about how he got the name and he said he took the words "Mushrooms" and "Spores" and another word and mushed them together.
The word "Shpongled" is used in like the sense "I'm about to get Shpongled," when they are about to jam his set or just get done jamming his set.

Call me old fashioned, but I'm still partial to Meat Beat Manifesto and The Future Sound Of London. Good hefty names that help convey an idea of the artist's sounds. Not to mention that MBM's "Storm The Studio" has one of the most bad-ass album titles.
