Creating the graphics and sounds for themes is easy. Each Carbide.ui tool can link in your favourite bitmap-, vector graphics-, and audio-editing applications, enabling you to use the tools you already know.

Once you’ve created a theme, you can use Carbide.ui to package and, in the case of a Symbian theme, sign your theme. With Nokia PC Suite or Nokia Ovi Suite, Carbide.ui enables you to automatically deploy a theme package to a device for testing.

LMMS - Linux MultiMedia Studio (also available for Windows)

QUOTE
LMMS is a free cross-platform alternative to commercial programs like FL Studio®, which allow you to produce music with your computer. This includes the creation of melodies and beats, the synthesis and mixing of sounds, and arranging of samples. You can have fun with your MIDI-keyboard and much more; all in a user-friendly and modern interface.

Download: Check your local repository or visit http://lmms.sourceforge.net/download.php =)

====
My opinion - This is great! LMMS is packed with a great factory and so far as a few hours messing with it goes, it's real solid software. LMMS has a great community and there are helpful tutorials all over the place. I'm looking to try out more digital studios for Linux, if anyone's passionate about that in particular let me know the software you use!

Some webpages give me eye strain. Especially white writinng on a black background (leaves lines in my vision for ages).

Using a Topographic view is sometimes easier on the eye for me.

The code gets altered when I post it so I have attached a text file.

Just refresh the page to get it back to normal.

Would having a Topographic link somewhere be a good idea?

You mean for TorrenTech or just in general?

If a site is packed with tons of content then giving users the option to fade it all out with a link to that javascript could be a good idea sure, if the site is also geared towards reading lots of text (Torrentech usually isn't!) Mine in particular I think will be fine with just separate stylesheets because the content is very minimal to begin with, focusing on mainly text, and I'd like to keep some level of control and consistency with the colors while still keeping it strain-less.

Also I recall a while back seeing a firefox addon which did the same thing and could be customized, I forget the name though.

xwax is open-source vinyl emulation software for Linux. It allows DJs and turntablists to playback digital audio files (MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC and more), controlled using a normal pair of turntables via timecoded vinyls.

It's designed for both beat mixing and scratch mixing. Needle drops, pitch changes, scratching, spinbacks and rewinds are all supported, and feel just like the audio is pressed onto the vinyl itself.

The focus is on an accurate vinyl feel which is efficient, stable and fast.

EncFS Encrypted Filesystem

QUOTE
EncFS provides an encrypted filesystem in user-space. It runs without any special permissions and uses the FUSE library and Linux kernel module to provide the filesystem interface. You can find links to source and binary releases below. EncFS is open source software, licensed under the GPL.

As with most encrypted filesystems, Encfs is meant to provide security against off-line attacks; ie your notebook or backups fall into the wrong hands, etc. The way Encfs works is different from the “loopback” encrypted filesystem support built into the Linux kernel because it works on files at a time, not an entire block device. This is a big advantage in some ways, but does not come without a cost.

Created by Harald Bögeholz, the interface is in German but has the option to run in English. It is free and standalone. Nothing is installed into the operating system. Designed for Windows it can run under Linux if Wine is installed. It will not run under Macs. If your computer can not run the software – ask a colleague or friend who has a windows based computer to help you test.

It's working routine is really plain: it compresses the directory which contains µTorrent files and saves it with .utb extension. GUI is as simple as it can ever be. In addition, it's possible to use command line parameters to do the tricks, also silently if necessary. µTBackup uses #ziplib. The newest and at the moment also the first released version is 0.1

Prey lets you keep track of your phone or laptop at all times, and will help you find it if it ever gets lost or stolen. It's lightweight, open source software, and free for anyone to use. And it just works.

Smush.it™
QUOTE
Smush.it uses optimization techniques specific to image format to remove unnecessary bytes from image files. It is a "lossless" tool, which means it optimizes the images without changing their look or visual quality. After Smush.it runs on a web page it reports how many bytes would be saved by optimizing the page's images and provides a downloadable zip file with the minimized image files.

Do not link to the smushed images on Smushit.com since they will only be available there temporarily. Instead, download the zip file containing the smushed images for your web page and replace your image files with those files.

OpenID was created in the summer of 2005 by an open source community trying to solve a problem that was not easily solved by other existing identity technologies. As such, OpenID is decentralized and not owned by anyone, nor should it be. Today, anyone can choose to use an OpenID or become an OpenID Provider for free without having to register or be approved by any organization.

QUOTE
OpenID allows you to use an existing account to sign in to multiple websites, without needing to create new passwords.
